NEW BISC HEAD COACH ANNOUNCEMENT

On behalf of the Bainbridge Island Swim Club Parent Booster group, we would like to announce the selection of CHARLIE ROOT as the new HEAD COACH of Bainbridge Island Swim Club. Charlie will replace Coach Bob Miller who is taking a well-deserved retirement.  We would like to thank John DeMeyer of the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation Department and his selection committee for an extensive and thorough candidate search and hiring of such an experienced, and highly-qualifed new coach.

Charlie Root has a long and impressive swimming background both as a competitive swimmer himself and as a coach.

Charlie’s recent role was head coach of Parnell Swim Club in New Zealand where his swimmers took places in Auckland Age Group and Junior Championships before going on to make the New Zealand Olympic trials.

Before New Zealand, Charlie held positions of Head Coach of Swim Seattle, Assistant Coach for Seattle University and Head Age Group Coach for Puyallup Aquatic Club which included direct supervision of the National Age Group squad that included Olympic Gold Medalist Megan Quann.

Charlie has a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree from the University of Washington with course work involving critical areas relevant to swimmers including Human Performance Enhancement, Anatomy, Physiology, Biological and Social Psychology among others. He also has education and training in Physical Therapy.

Charlie has extensive experience in developing quality swim programs for age group swimmers and developed and gave educational swimming courses in New Zealand. He has wonderful ideas for training programs both in and out of the water and experience in coaching all ages from novices to top competition level swimmers.

Prior to coaching, Charlie has an impressive personal swimming record. As an age group swimmer he place in the National top 16 in the 100 Fly,  at 18 he was a Junior National Finalist in the 200 & 500 Free and while swimming for the University of Washington, we was a Senior Nationals qualifier, Pac 10 Conference finalist and 1990 Goodwill Games qualifier in multiple Freestyle, Butterfly and IM events.

Following a transition period with Coach Bob over the period Dec 8 - 19, Coach Charlie Root will officially take charge of the pool deck December 21st 2009.   You are all invited to meet Charlie at the meet and greet to be held Thursday December 10 at 6.30pm at the pool. Please join us in giving him a hearty welcome!

Welcome Coach Charlie Root!
