Emily Silver Talks to BISC March 16

 MEET EMILY SILVER!

Tuesday March 16 2010

5.00pm at our Pool

Everyone knows Emily Silver as the Olympic Swimmer, but we know her as our local Bainbridge hero and of course a former Bainbridge Island Swim Club Swimmer.

Come hear Emily talk to BISC Swimmers on Tuesday, March 16th at 5:00pm poolside at the Ray pool. Emily will talk with our team about her experiences as a club swimmer, a collegiate swimmer and Olympic swimmer.

Emily started swimming for BISC when she was nine years old and still holds a number of team age-group records.  In 2002, while swimming for BISC, she finished 9th in the 50 freestyle in the US Senior National Swimming Championship and made her first Olympic Trials qualifying time. That made her eligible to compete in the 2004 US Olympic Trials, where she finished 15th in the 50-meter freestyle.

A 2007-08 All-American.  During the 2007-08 college dual season,  she recorded over 10 individual first-place finishes (in dual meets). She was a member of Cal's 800-yard free relay that won the 2008 Pac-10 title (and Pac-10 meet record) in 7:04.13 and she was on the NCAA runner-up 200 free relay (1:27.52, a new school record).

Silver set a Cal record in the 50 free (since broken) at the 2007 NCAA meet (21.99, since broken), and she was the '07 Pac-10 champion in the 100 and 200 free.

Voted team MVP as a freshman in 2005, Silver earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter free relay at the World Championships that summer.

Silver was a member of the U.S. team at the 2007 World University Games, where she won a gold medal in the 400 free relay and a silver in the 400 medley relay.
Best times at Cal: (yards)
50 free 21.99 (2007 NCAAs); 100 free 47.45 (2007 NCAAs); 200 free 1:44.37 (2007 Pac-10s); 200 IM 2:00.17 (2007 Pac-10s)

In 2008,  Emily claimed her spot on the U.S. Olympic team headed to Beijing with a fifth-place finish in the 100 free at the trials (54.91).   In Beijing she won a silver medal in the 400 Free Relay.

Emily graduated from Bainbridge High School as one of the most decorated swimmers in the history of Washington State High School athletics. She was the first swimmer in state high school history to win two individual events four straight years at the state championship meet.

We hope you can join us in welcoming Emily back to Bainbridge and sharing her swimming stories.
